Taste good
The coating masks the tablet’s original taste and replaces it with a pleasant and refreshing taste of citrus or strawberry, for example.

Easy to swallow
When a coated tablet is put into the mouth, the coating starts to dissolve, making the tablet slippery. The coating also contains saliva-stimulating additives. The slippery surface in combination with the increased saliva flow makes the tablet easier to swallow.

MedCoat® is sold separately as a disposable consumer healthcare product, without any connection to a specific drug. The design of the device makes it possible to apply coatings to most tablets, capsules or pills. Even broken tablets (halves or quarters) can be coated. The coating dissolves after a short time in the stomach and contains only food ingredients that are not known to interact with drugs.
MedCoat® is patented in Europe and the USA, with additional patent applications pending.
Many people have difficulty swallowing tablets
Difficulty in swallowing tablets is a widespread problem among patients. Two large groups that often have difficulty swallowing tablets are children (e.g. when taking bad tasting medicine such as penicillin) and elderly with trouble swallowing (e.g. due to dysphagia or xerostomia).
However, it is not only children and the elderly who experience these problems. Studies have revealed that as many as 25% of the adult population has difficulty swallowing tablets. These difficulties not only cause inconvenience for many people, it can also have a negative impact on patient compliance.
Med Coat AB will also develop a product for veterinary use that can be used to facilitate the administration of tablets to cats and dogs, for example.
