A clinical study of MedCoat® has been published in Pharmacy World & Science, volume 32, number 4, page 420-423. The title of the study was “A randomized cross-over study to evaluate the swallow-enhancing and taste-masking properties of a novel coating for oral tablets”. Totally 41 subjects with difficulty swallowing tablets were enrolled in the study. On average 98 % of the subjects in the study stated that it was easier to swallow tablets coated with MedCoat® compared to identical uncoated tablets. All subjects stated that MedCoat® completely masked the bitter taste of a bitter flavoured tablet.

Henrik Mickos has joined Med Coat AB’s Advisory Board. Henrik is currently the Managing Director of Stiftelsen Vetenskapstaden and has previously held different management positions within the confectionery manufacturer, Aroma AB. Henrik holds a PhD in Chemistry from the Stockholm University. Henrik will contribute with expertise regarding the production and manufacturing of Med Coat AB’s products.

Jan Litborn and Kjell Jegefors have joined the Board of Directors of Med Coat AB. Jan Litborn is a lawyer and partner at the Swedish law firm Glimstedt. Kjell Jegefors currently serves as Executive Officer of Forum for Innovation Management. Kjell is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Teknikhöjden-Royal Institute of Technology-Foundation and a board member of Aktietorget AB and Stockholm Technology Park- Teknikhöjden AB.

To verify that there are no risks for interaction between drugs and any of the ingredients in MedCoat® an extensive literature study has been performed at the Drug Research and Information Center (DRIC) at the Karolinska University Hospital. The study was directed by professor emeritus Folke Sjöqvist, at the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the Karolinska Institute. Folke Sjöqvist is also the author of the drug interaction chapter in FASS (Pharmaceutical Specialties in Sweden). In the study no risk for interaction was found.
